The Christchurch Earthquake

Posted: 28 February 2011

As reported in the news, Perpetual’s Christchurch office building has suffered significant damage as a result of the latest earthquake.  This has been a devastating event and our prime focus is on our people affected by the earthquake.  Our first priority is to ascertain the whereabouts of all our people, and we are in contact with the emergency services, family and friends. If you have family who work with us, please contact us at 0800 737 738.

Counselling services are available to all our staff.  Perpetual has around 100 staff in total throughout New Zealand, so are relatively a tight-knit group.  We are and will remain in close contact with any staff families that have been affected, to offer any help and support that we can.

In terms of how the company is coping, we have full back-up systems in place in terms of record systems.  Those systems are now either in the process of being restored, or are already up and running.  We have eight other offices nationwide staffed with consultants and advisers who are available to provide support for clients regularly service out of the Christchurch office.

We are able to operate our normal business, understanding that our prime focus is on looking after our Christchurch people, and there will be the odd hiccup.  Any clients needing assistance or advice on any matter will be looked after with all Christchurch calls being diverted to other offices.

This is a strong Kiwi company, operating for over 125 years and we will recover from the impact of this event.  Perpetual has around $580 million in funds under advice and management.  As we get through this event, we continue to provide a quality wealth management service for our clients.
