Message to Perpetual Clients Impacted by the Earthquake

Posted: 6 September 2010

As a Christchurch based business, many of our clients and our team have been affected by the earthquake.

We are fortunate in that our premises, systems and communications are all operational.

The majority of our staff are in the office today but we’ve made it clear that they are also to take the time required to address any issues around their families and housing at this time.

To ensure that as a Perpetual client your needs are taken care of, we have diverted our phones to our Auckland office.  Over the course of the next few days, we will also be attempting to contact as many of you as possible to discuss whether there are any concerns or issues you may have with which we can assist.

Please remember to take care when physically assessing any damage around your property as the hospitals have already been reporting an increase in home owner related injuries resulting from damage inspection.

For those of you who have residential properties which may have been damaged in the quake, and for whom Perpetual is not looking after your property, a first course of action may be to contact the Earthquake Commission (EQC) who are New Zealand’s primary insurer for damages (house and contents) resulting from natural disasters.  They can be reached 24 hours a day/7 days a week through online at http://www.eqc.govt.nz or through 0800 DAMAGE (0800 326 243); however, keep in mind that they will be experiencing heavy traffic at this point.

Where we are looking after the property on your behalf, we will be in touch with you to coordinate a claim with EQC.

The government also has a helpline for more general concerns.  This number if 0800 779 997.

In the meantime, please feel free to contact us at 0800 737 738 or by sending an email to email@perpetual.co.nz
