Farina Thompson Charitable Trust
Background
The Trust was set up in 1977 with a substantial donation from Farina Thompson with further gifts being made to the charity by her family. Throughout her life, Farina Thompson worked to support a number of children's causes, both in New Zealand and internationally. Her major interests lay in the arts with a special fondness for supporting music and ballet. It was also her wish that this Charitable Trust be used to help those that are less able to help themselves, to support the arts that she loved and to provide funding to organisations that benefit the community. Farina Thompson was a philanthropist all her life and the establishment and continuation of the Trust enables her to continue giving to and helping others.
Music Scholarship
The trust set up a music scholarship in 2006 with the assistance of the University of Canterbury. The scholarship is awarded annually to students studying music at the university.
