The purpose of this charitable trust is to fund the restoration of historic buildings in the Banks Peninsula area of Canterbury.
Background
The Parkinson Memorial Park Trust was set up in 1974 by Mrs Marewa A W Jamieson, with the aim of assisting in the preservation of historic buildings in New Zealand. Mrs Jamieson was born into the Parkinson family of Kaituna Valley where she lived all her life. She was a keen traveller and developed a love for visiting historic sites during her many world trips. She loved to have overseas friends to stay in her Kaituna Valley homestead and she would show them around the many interesting places in Banks Peninsula. During her term as dominion president of the Woman’s Division of Federated Farmers, she was a keen advocate in providing rest housing throughout New Zealand for the women members to take a break from their farming lives.
