The purpose of this foundation is to provide funds to support registered charities. Preference is given to charities assisting New Zealand causes.
Jack and Joan Hindin (founders) launched the New Zealand Charitable Foundation (NZCF) in February 1986 with an initial gift of $10,000 (since increased). The purpose of this foundation is to recruit capital sums which are invested and the resulting income is distributed in perpetuity to charities and causes chosen by those who provide the capital. A limited pool of discretionary income is available each year and is distributed with the assistance of the trust’s regional advisors.
Donation Information
Donations to the foundation of $80,000 or more qualify for an individually accounted sub-trust. The donor has the ability to determine the distribution of funds to specific or general charities. These sub-trusts will dedicate the fund to the memory of the donor if requested. Donors include gifts by will, transfer of existing charitable trusts and/or donations from individuals during their lifetime. The Foundation is recognised by the Inland Revenue Department as an approved charity and is exempt from income tax. It is registered as a charitable entity with the Charities Commission.
Application Procedure
Applications should be addressed in writing to the Administration Trustee and lodged no later than 30 June each year. Annual distributions are generally decided in June. Because of the nature of support offered and the substantial number of applications received, individual payments are usually small. Applications should be lodged using the Foundation's standard application form. This cannot be completed online.
