Reading PDF Files

Reading a PDF document

What is it?

Many documents are saved and distributed through a portable document format, otherwise known as a pdf which allows documents created by an array of applications such as Microsoft Word to be consolidated and read through just one application.

These documents are generally denoted with this icon

Getting a pdf reader

The file format is created by Adobe and the application required to read (only) is provided free of charge by Adobe.

You can download this by clicking this icon  and following the steps provided. Note that in the process, you may be asked if you want to add different toolbars to your browser, which may or may not be of interest to you.  Generally, if not, you can untick that 'install' box to avoid these being added.

Saving pdf files your desktop

You are able to save ‘pdfs’ to your computer in much the same way as you would save a word document,. Just select “File” and “Save As” and select the name (if you want to change it) and the location to where you want to save it.
