Heritage

The Perpetual Trustees Estate and Agency Company of New Zealand Limited was founded over 125 years ago in Dunedin.

125 Years of Perpetual Trust
  • An early director, Donald Reid, one of the original investors in the company, founded the stock and station business that became Reid Farmers, which in turn merged with PGG in 2001 to ultimately become part of PGG Wrightson.
  • The Trustee Companies Act 1967 which enabled Trustee Companies to exercise many powers and discretions (formerly only allowed to the Public Trustee) provided increased opportunity.
  • The first North Island branch opened in Auckland in 1968. In 1978 Perpetual was taken over by AMP. And in 1996 Pyne Gould Corporation acquired Perpetual Trust from AMP, merging it with PGG Trust in 1998 to form the business now known as Perpetual Trust.
  • In 2009, the Trust business was restructured into three complementary, specialist units – Perpetual Asset Management, Perpetual Trust and Perpetual Portfolio Management.
